INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL ACCOUNT IN BRAZIL’S BALANCE OF PAYMENTS
CONTRIBUTION OF REAL EFFECTIVE EXCHANGE RATE AND INCOME
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze the evolution of the balance of international travel account of the Brazilian balance of payments and assess the contribution of the real exchange rate (price effect) and income in the behavior of this account in the period between 1988 and 2011. For this purpose, we used quarterly data. The results suggest that the increased negativity of the result (revenues minus expenses) of the international travel account in the country is more sensitive to changes in income than to changes in real exchange rate.
