THE MONETARY DIPLOMACY OF THE UNITED STATES IN THE SEVENTIES
Abstract
In the late 1960 and throughout the 1970, a period marked by an excessive instability of the international economy, the collapse of the Bretton Woods Agreements and the two oil shocks, the US dollar suffered questioning as the most important international reference currency. The aim of this paper is to analyze the strategy and political and diplomatic actions of the US government in defense of its currency. For this, a rereading expanded, for international relations, on cartal perspective of the money is made. This perspective is opposed to others interpretations that accentuate the weight of the choices of market actors and other national states.
