The Forum
The BRICS Academic Forum is an annual event preceding the BRICS Summit in the host country. This two days event, where experts and scholars of the academic communities from the member countries meet and engage, has three main objectives: (1) to deepen collaboration in respect of research of mutual interest; (2) to establish networks between such communities; and (3) to provide the BRICS leaders with a research resource in respect of issues under discussion at the Summit. The aim is therefore to encourage academic exchange, strengthen dialogue with civil society, as well as provide policy advice.
Considering the 2014 BRICS summit will be held in Brazil (Fortaleza-CE), the 6th BRICS Academic Forum also takes place in the country (Rio de Janeiro-RJ). The Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA), public foundation affiliated to the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs (SAE) of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, is the country's official think tank at the Forum. IPEA along with its supporters, the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG) and the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, welcome all to the meeting.
