Brasilia
Brasilia is in the center of the country and can be regarded as one of the most curious and unique cities in the world. Built by the architect Lucio Costa and inaugurated in 1960, the federal capital is one of the few modernist urban projects that became a reality. The famous "Pilot Plan", which refers to the shape of an airplane, is composed of axles "Asa" and "Eixo Monumental". The first is formed by the neighborhoods “Asa Norte” and “Asa Sul”, possessing several parallel tracks that host the “Super Quadras” and residential sectors of trade and services. Perpendicular to it, the “Eixo Monumental”, the great avenue, the body of the plane, so the complex cultural and political environment composed of the Three Powers Square, Esplanade of Ministries, Cathedral, museums and monuments. The "nose of the plane" is bordered by the artificial lake Paranoá, undeniably beautiful place in the city.
But Brasilia is not only a great exhibition of bold architecture that gave the city the title of Humanity Cultural Patrimony by UNESCO. The buildings to six floors to the beautiful sky of the city was not in hiding, is included in immense gardens. Following the importance that the city gives the green, the City Park, considered the world's largest urban park, was placed in the center of Brasilia, being a major local leisure center, in addition to several museums, theaters and restaurants offering entertainment quality.
The Three Powers Square (Praça dos Três Poderes, in portuguese) houses some of the most important buildings of works by Oscar Niemeyer - the Planalto Palace (the President's base Republic), Congress (House of Representatives and Senate) and Supreme Court. There are located, also, the Museum of the City, the Pantheon and Lucio Costa Space, and three sculptures - Pombal (Niemeyer), Justice (Alfredo Ceschiatti) and The Candangos (Bruno Giorgi). The building of Palácio do Itamaraty (Foreign Ministry), the National Museum, National Theatre, the National Library and the Cathedral of Brasilia are located near the Esplanade of Ministries. It is possible to visit the interior of buildings at predetermined times.
Outside the political center, it's worth knowing the Alvorada Palace, official residence of the President, the Don Bosco Shrine, the "small church" – Nossa Senhora de Fátima Church, JK bridge, the TV tower and its beautiful view of the Esplanade, the JK Memorial, HQ Army, the South Lake jetty and other various places of enterteinment and culture.
