AN ANALYSIS OF THE CARAJÁS PROJECT IN THE CITY OF PARAUAPEBAS IN PARÁ

This research studies the socioeconomic impacts of mineral royalties in Parauapebas Carajás Project. It appears that the valuation of these impacts is a step forward in understanding the relationship
between the economic activity of great potential and the necessity of improving the quality of life
and the rational use of resources. The methodology consisted of four steps: analysis of the origin and evolution of mineral activity in the Amazon, collecting data and developing a database, tabulating and processing data and the analysis and interpretation of results. The model used was the rate of geometric growth and the correlation coefficient. The results show that mining is an important growth factor and stimulate the development of human capital of the municipalities. However, this activity logs limitations such as employment generation and ensuring equitable distribution of benefits in the present and in the future.
