INCOME INEQUALITY AND TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY:
AN ANALYSIS FOR THE CITIES OF THE STATE OF PARANA

This article aims to analyze the efficiency in the generation of equity in the distribution of income from parana districts for the years 2000 and 2010, using data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA). For this, use was made of the following variables: capital stock (obtained from electricity consumption), expenditure on education and culture, the economically active population employed and expected years of schooling. The results point to an increase in efficient municipalities or near the efficiency frontier in the period analyzed, which confirms the improvement in income distribution in the state. The municipalities with the highest level of output match those that have the best efficiency scores, especially analyzing the year 2010.
However, municipalities that used the highest levels of inputs did not match necessarily those with the highest score efficiency.
