Abstract

The main objective of this paper was to analyze the impact of the decreases in taxation in the IPI – Industrialized Product Tax – revenue through a structural VAR time series model. The results showed that an exogenous price shock could substantially modify sales, for a 10% increase in prices sales would be 46% lower. The relation between tax revenue and prices showed elasticity close to unity, since a 10% increase in prices would increase the tax revenue by 13%. Prices and credit determined the tax revenue forecasting errors, measured by the historical variance decomposition in the period between March 2002 and December 2015.
