Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the impacts of transportation cost reduction for soybean sector in Brazilian regions. To achieve the proposed objective, an improvement in the transportation system in the Brazilian regions on the soy sector and the impacts on the main trading blocks was simulated, using the General Equilibrium Analysis Project of the Brazilian Economy (PAEG). The results showed that there are different effects on the soybean sector and on economic indicators for each large Brazilian region; the South and Midwest regions prevailed in soybean grain production and export gains. The results, in general, were consistent with the literature, showing that a reduction in transportation costs would lead to better results for Brazil, however the studies found did not consider inequality between Brazilian regions, being an important differential of this work.
