Abstract

This paper analyzes the structural changes into the Brazilian energy sector for the years of 1997 and 2002. In order to reach this aim, we used the Guilhoto and Sesso (2005) estimated input-output matrices for both years. In order to make the National Energy Balance and the Input-output matrix compatible we used an input-output matrix for 14 sectors. The sectoral analysis will be divided in two parts. The first will be composed by an exploratory analysis of energy sector. We will use the classical indicators (e.g. key-sector, employment multiplier, income and production multiplier). At the second part, we will make a requirement analysis (total, direct and indirect) for the energy sector. The results will help the policy makers to better understand the energy sector
in Brazil.
